Welcome to all our new ZapTimes subscribers. It is great to see people become interested in natural health. We want to learn as much as possible, and love to share with you tips and things we’ve learned.

The past two months have been a very trying time for us. On July 4th, Arthur’s brother Brian was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and we did everything we knew to help him regain his health. But internal bleeding from surgery set him back more than a month in his recovery time, and unfortunately it was too late. He passed away August 24th, only 47 years old.

This experience reminded us that PREVENTION is the key. It is too bad that people only begin making lifestyle and diet changes when disease strikes. The time to begin is NOW!

OUR ZAPPER and the West Nile Virus

Last month we asked to hear from anyone with recurring malaria. We had a number of interesting replies. One came from a reader who had actually contracted the West Nile virus – a deadly disease related to malaria and contracted through a mosquito bite.

She writes,

During the first ten days, I just lay in bed motionless–fever, weird headache, nausea, aching all over. I didn’t think I was going to die…but it sure felt like it.

I had a complete loss of balance; the slightest motion of my head caused me to experience that my feet were lifted up over my head, throwing me backwards. If I was lying down, it felt like the bed was being picked up and turned upside-down, from the foot to the head.

When I felt well enough to sit up, if I turned my head, I got thrown on my back, onto the bed; the same if I tried to stand: I got thrown on my back- thank God, onto the bed and not the floor.

So I crawled. For several months, I couldn’t think clearly, and couldn’t do much of anything. I had fevers and headaches all the time–odd headaches, in the back of my head. The fevers were recurrent, and just as bad each time they came.

A year of my life just disappeared. Then, a couple of months ago, I zapped for a sore throat, and started to feel better generally. The fevers lessened. The balance improved. Everything was better.

I never connected the zapping and the improvement from West Nile till I read your email. Even then, I wouldn’t have connected it unless I had read that WN is a type of malaria.

Disease Mongering to Sell Drugs

At church recently the speaker gave a good illustration: A man prayed, day after day, “God, please sweep out all the cobwebs out of my life!” Finally his friend said, “Why don’t you kill the spider?”

How like modern medicine! Billions of dollars are spent “researching” ways to treat symptoms (sweeping out cobwebs) when the cause (spider) is still there and causing more problems. Drugs NEVER cure diseases, and the fact that professionals distribute them does not mean that they are safe or effective. They only mask symptoms, and create MORE problems.

“Disease Mongering” is a tactic widely used by the pharmaceutical industry. It uses FEAR as a marketing strategy to sell drugs. Convince people that they have a need, and they will buy anything. You can read about disease mongering in a confidential strategy paper leaked from a pharmaceutical giant. This article is a MUST READ.

A Knee Surgery for Arthritis Is Called Sham, by Gina Kolata

A popular operation for arthritis of the knee worked no better than a sham procedure in which patients were sedated while surgeons pretended to operate, researchers are reporting today.

The operation – arthroscopic surgery for the pain and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis – is done on at least 225,000 middle-age and older Americans each year at a cost of more than a billion dollars to Medicare, the Department of Veterans Affairs and private insurers.

It involves making three small incisions in the knee; inserting an arthroscope, a thin instrument that allows surgeons to see the joint; and then flushing debris from the knee or shaving rough areas of cartilage from the joint and then flushing it.

In the study, to be published today in The New England Journal of Medicine, investigators at the Houston Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine report that while patients often said they felt better after the surgery, their improvement was just wishful thinking. Tests of knee functions revealed that the operation had not helped, and those who got the placebo surgery reported feeling just as good as those who had had the real operation.

‘Here we are doing all this surgery on people and it’s all a sham,’ said Dr. Baruch Brody, an ethicist at Baylor who helped design the study.

The study dealt only with arthroscopic surgery for osteoarthritis, not with other common knee operations.

GET THE FACTS ON ALMONDS

For those of us who prefer a meatless diet but wonder where to get a complete protein without a lot of complicated food combining- almonds are the answer. They contain significant amounts of all of the eight amino acids which are considered to be essential for the building of all body cells and the production of hormones.

According to health professionals, we need 25-35 grams of protein per day and you can get 5 of those grams from each ounce of almonds.

Plant proteins are more easily broken down by the body than animal proteins, which require more energy to digest. Besides overworking the digestive system, animal proteins produce the harmful by-product, uric acid, which irritates the nervous system and forms painful crystals in the joints. To protect itself from excess uric acid, the body takes calcium from the bones and teeth to combine with the uric acid, forming calcium urate crystals. These can lead to kidney stones.

Almonds are also a source of Vitamin E, zinc, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, iron, biotin, selenium, boron, copper and healthy oils. To make the most of these wonderful nutrients eat your almonds fresh and raw. Roasted nuts have reduced nutrition, as the unsaturated oils have been destroyed and they are usually seasoned with that robber of health – salt.

Here’s even better news! The amount of nutrition in your almonds can be increased by soaking them in water for 6 hours or overnight. This soaking resembles what happens in nature when animals such as squirrels carry nuts in their moist cheek pouches where they germinate and burst into new life with increased nutrition. This also changes the texture of the nuts, making them easier to chew, chop and digest.

As with any fresh food, get the freshest almonds possible. Use organically grown almonds if you can find them. If they have been shelled, choose those which still have the protective brown covering which keeps them from getting rancid as fast. Keep refrigerated or even frozen in tightly closed containers.

Besides being a great snack or energy booster, almonds can be made into a wonderful milk, or ground and used in live food recipes.

Here are a couple of almond recipes you might enjoy:

ALMOND MILK

  • 1/2 cup raw almonds
  • 1 Tbsp. flax seed (optional)
  • 1 tsp. lecithin granules (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp. honey
  • 1/8 tsp. almond or vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp. flax oil (optional)
  • 3 cups water

Put the dry ingredients directly into a high-speed blender and blend until almonds and flax seed turn to powder. Add the liquid ingredients and blend again for about 30 to 60 seconds. Pour on cereals as is or strain for a finer milk to drink. Use more water for lighter milk or less water for creamier milk. For a whiter milk, blanch the almonds in hot water for one minute, drain and pinch off the brown covering before beginning to blend.

ALMOND BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE

Use the almond milk recipe and add a ripe banana and other fruits like dried cranberries, fresh or frozen berries.
If using dried cranberries, put the cranberries with the dry ingredients to blend, then add liquid ingredients.

Try some almonds soon. They are delicious!

Dear Arthur,
I had corresponded to you a few times and purchased a zapper for my friend who had cancer. Sadly, she passed away July 2. I wish I could tell you she faithfully used the zapper and changed her diet to include Barleygreen, but she did not. She was addicted to diet Coke and continued to have at least one a day until she died. (She also craved McDonalds’ Big Macs…) The only time she zapped was when I was with her so we could do it together. She kept meaning to “start” but never seemed to.
